Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is a
surgical technique that
improves the body's
contour by removing
excess fat from deposits
located between the skin
and muscle. Liposuction
involves the use of a
small stainless steel
tube, called a cannula
(from the Latin word for
reed, tube, cane). The
cannula is connected to a
powerful suction pump and
inserted into the fat
through small incisions
in the skin. Fat removal
is accomplished as the
suction cannula creates
tiny tunnels through the
fatty layers. After
surgery, these tiny
tunnels collapse and thus
result in an improved
body contour.
Liposuction is the most
commonly performed
plastic surgery
procedure. It is ideally
suited to eliminate
bulges of fat from
different areas of the
body with minimal
scarring and quick
recovery times. When done
properly it is easily
tolerated and very safe.
Although the amount of
weight loss is not
remarkable, because the
fat is taken from
targeted areas, the
changes in body contour
can be dramatic.
The body has certain
places where it stores
prefers to store ‘slow
burning’ fat. This varies
from individual to
individual. These bulges
of slow burning fat give
the figure its particular
shape, whether it be an
‘hourglass’ or a ‘pear’
figure. Unfortunately, if
you don’t like these
bulges, they can be hard
to get rid of as they are
‘slow burning’ fat. Even
with diet and exercise,
you will probably lose
weight in other areas
before you lose those
bulges.
Fortunately, liposuction
targets these areas
specifically. Once the
fat producing cells in
those areas are
eliminated or reduced in
number, the body starts
storing fat in other
areas. In this way, the
body contour is changed.
