Buttock Augmentation
(Butt Lift)
Inspired by the assets of
stars such as J Lo and
Shakira, women who have
spent months on the gym
trying to attain a more
shapely bottom are now
lining up at the plastic
surgeon's office.
The benefits of a butt
lift reportedly range
from looking good again
in a bikini to overall
enhanced self-esteem.
Possible risks include
nerve damage from
incision and insertion of
the implants,
post-surgery infection,
and sometimes prolonged
pain.
Buttock implant surgery
lasts about two hours and
is usually performed
under general anesthesia.
Because of the position
of the implants, the
recovery period presents
special challenges when
sitting, driving a car,
or general physical
activity which experts
say should be avoided for
several weeks
post-surgery.
Motivations vary for
wanting this procedure
vary, some women feel
their buttocks never
fully developed, and some
women wish to gain a more
enhanced set of buttocks
by making them larger and
rounder. Butt implants is
the cosmetic surgery
procedure that provides a
solution.
Implants placed in the
buttocks are comprised of
a silicone shell filled
with a firm but flexible
material, typically
silicone. These implants
are designed to maintain
a natural feel to the
buttocks. However, types
of implants used may
vary, depending on the
surgeon.
According to the American
Society for Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery (ASAPS),
3,885 butt implants were
performed in the United
States in 2003, compared
to only 614 performed in
2002, a 533% increase.
ASAPS also reports that
in 2003, 53.1% of the
patients were between the
ages of 35-50 while 37.6%
were between the 19-34.
While some males do also
undergo buttock implants,
most of the cases
involved women with 72.2%
female procedures
performed in 2003.
Women who lack buttock
definition would
represent an ideal
candidate for buttock
implants. Although
reasons may vary from
person to person, the
more common ones include:
-
Enhancing appearance
and boosting
self-confidence.
-
Becoming less
self-conscious about
appearance.
-
Achieving a more
balanced look.
-
Gaining a more
sensuous backside.
However, the prospective
patient must also be
aware that cosmetic
surgery is designed for
improvement, not
perfection. Patients
should have realistic
goals and expectations
for their buttock
augmentation. Women
deciding to undergo
buttock augmentation must
do so for their own
reasons, and not anyone
else’s. Be sure to
discuss your reasons for
wanting to undergo this
operation with the doctor
during your consultation
visit. This will also
help determine your
candidacy for the
procedure.
